Flame-generated Vorticity Production in Premixed Flame-vortex Interactions
INTRODUCTION Theoretical analysis, experimental observations, and numerical simulations have all indicated that flame-vortex interactions play an important role in the propagation and extinguishment of turbulent flames in microgravity [1]. Most studies of flame-vortex interactions ignore the effects of gravity and experiments are usually conducted in Earth gravity. Recently, Sinibaldi et al. [2...
متن کاملThe effects of hydrodynamic stretch on the flame propagation enhancement of ethylene by addition of ozone.
The effect of O(3) on C(2)H(4)/synthetic-air flame propagation at sub-atmospheric pressure was investigated through detailed experiments and simulations. A Hencken burner provided an ideal platform to interrogate flame speed enhancement, producing a steady, laminar, nearly one-dimensional, minimally curved, weakly stretched, and nearly adiabatic flame that could be accurately compared with simu...
متن کاملOn the flame length in firewhirls with strong vorticity
The influence of strong rotation on the flame length in firewhirls (normalized by the fuel supply rate) is investigated analytically. A new prediction for the length of the flame in firewhirls with strong rotation is obtained by introducing the compensating regime of vortical flows. The prediction is in a good agreement with experimental results.
متن کاملGraphene with geometrically induced vorticity.
At half filling, the electronic structure of graphene can be modeled by a pair of free two-dimensional Dirac fermions. We explicitly demonstrate that in the presence of a geometrically induced gauge field an everywhere-real Kekulé modulation of the hopping matrix elements can correspond to a nonreal Higgs field with nontrivial vorticity. This provides a natural setting for fractionally charged ...
متن کاملBiomechanics of stretch-induced beading.
To account for the beading of myelinated fibers, and axons of unmyelinated nerve fibers as well of neurites of cultured dorsal root ganglia caused by mild stretching, a model is presented. In this model, membrane tension and hydrostatic pressure are the basic factors responsible for axonal constriction, which causes the movement of axonal fluid from the constricted regions into the adjoining ax...
